It would be impossible to do a trend report this year and NOT talk about unicorns. They are showing up everywhere from Starbucks to decor to beauty products. The trend is characterized by vibrant pastels, shimmering pearly finishes, rainbows, and, of course, lots of glitter!
Unicorn parties are HUGE right now for birthdays and baby showers. This unicorn birthday party from TheIcedSugarCookie.com is a great example of all the whimsical, soft, and sugary goodness of a unicorn party.
Although incredibly sweet, these unicorn macaroons are way beyond my level of expertise. However, the cupcake and cake toppers here are an incredibly easy way to turn ordinary cakes into magical unicorns.
For party favors, these adorable unicorn necklaces are inexpensive and come in gold or silver. If you’re feeling crafty you can make easy unicorn gift bags.
And while we’re talking about getting crafty, I posted the easiest tutorial on how to make these adorable unicorn party lanterns here.
While it’s perfectly acceptable to go over the top with this theme, I do love the idea of incorporating unicorns in more subtle and sophisticated ways like this lamp from jillianharris.com.
Another great example is this statement wall from bloglovin.com.
Even more minimalistic examples are this shirt and framed art.
Finally, if you do host a unicorn party think about including a ‘pin the horn on the unicorn’ game. You can get one here or make your own and let the guests decorate their own horns!
Don’t forget to connect and show me your unicorn party pics!
Love + lots of glitter,
As an artist, I have always enjoyed a balance between organic and geometric shapes. Repetitive use of geometric shapes in event design is trending right now and I LOVE it. One of the great things about this trend is that, with a little bit of crafting, you can easily create a stylish party on a budget.
This innovative custom backdrop from weddingcolors.net is clean, but elegant in its simplicity.
Geometric shapes make an appearance on tablescapes in weddings and parties. Pastels colors and the use of greenery soften the hardness of the shapes and make it a perfect element for bridal and baby showers.
These plates from Amazon are adorable and totally affordable. Because of the colors and patterns you could use them for birthdays, showers, a playful picnic, or a tea party.
I also love these lights because not only are they beautiful, but they are battery operated which means you can easily incorporate them into you party decor. I can’t count the number of times I couldn’t make my lighting vision work due to the lack of an outlet!Geometric shapes can be tastefully added to cakes or used in paper decor to add further dimensionality. Often times it is used as a simple metallic accent which I find elegant.
Get crafty and play with geometric shapes by making your own terrariums, lighting, and home decor. Like this one from brit.co.

One of the more playful themes that is trending in parties and decor right now is donuts. Donuts are colorful, fun, and (of course) delicious! This theme can be used for all ages; baby showers, children’s parties, weddings, and more.
Let the donut puns begin, cause donuts are a ‘hole’ lotta fun.
Donut walls and bars are popular right now, especially at weddings. This monochrome donut display from Inspired By This is an elegant take on the trend. They can be incorporated into wedding cakes and other dessert tables too.
The use of pastel colors and floral accents gives donuts a more “grown-up”, bohemian feel, but it’s easy to add sophistication to even children’s parties.
For a birthday party I would LOVE to attempt this giant donut cake from The Cake Blog. How cute is that?!
As always, I’d love to see your party pics and donut themes. Please connect with me on social media and share with me!
Love + sprinkles,
I am absolutely in love with the “Desert Rose” theme that I’m seeing in party decor, interiors, edibles, and more. Cacti have been extremely popular in weddings lately too. The cool greens of succulents and the darker, almost emerald, cactus greens make a beautiful contrast with dusty rose and blush.
Using crisp and clean design elements and metallic accents makes this a perfect theme for a bridal or baby shower. I would LOVE to host an eclectic desert rose dinner party for a more simple production, but I have seen some amazing weddings pulling from this trend.
These cactus cupcakes from Leslie Vigil at Tasteful Cakes are adorable! The metallic drip icing on the cactus cake below adds more elegance suitable for a wedding (see more at brides.com)
